“My friend is a UT PhD student researching indoor air quality and how well a home’s barrier can keep out fine particles. We agreed to let him come today to take some tests on our house.  I told him that it should be very tight because it’s new and has the spray foam insulation.  He said that’s good and that he wants a range of results for his tests (this is his 15th house).

He set up a blower door test, then set some other equipment up to compare indoor and outdoor air quality over time.  He said tests typically are about 3 hours and he will be able get all his readings of how much outdoor air particles have came into the house.

Unfortunately for him but great for us, he couldn’t get any readings for particles coming in from outside!  He said, ‘I never retrieved an accurate reading because the house is so tight…I’ve literally measured ducts that were leakier than your entire house.’
