What We Build

At PSW, we take a holistic approach to the design of our communities. Environmentally conscious  elements are not add-ons to the designs,  but intrinsic characteristics.

When planning our communities, from the roadways to the gardens, sustainability is at the forefront of our thinking. The run-off water from the roofs of our homes and from the paved areas is channeled to on-site rain gardens at all of our developments. Rain gardens improve the water quality of the nearby precious fresh water resources of Austin by allowing for on-site absorption. They   protect our homes from the violent storms common in Central Texas. At several communities, PSW is harvesting rainwater to help with landscape irrigation.

When designing our buildings PSW maintains a contextual approach while striving to be innovative with modern materials and construction techniques.   The quiet simplicity of the Austin vernacular architecture is always a springboard for our home designs. Our  interiors provide a feeling of openness and warmth with creative and functional floor plans. Large windows and carefully selected, environmentally friendly materials are the hallmarks of a PSW home.

Equally important, we construct our homes with high quality materials often not used in typical residential developments. Solar panels are standard on all PSW homes, dramatically reducing the cost of electricity for home owners, and  helping to reduce the overall electrical consumption from the Austin grid.

We use state of the art spray foam insulation, a product that out performs the standard fiberglass batt insulation that most homebuilders use in every way.  It greatly reduces energy consumption, with less that 1%  air leakage and a higher R-value than fiberglass. Spray foam does not lose its thermal insulation property over time as batt insulation does. It provides better indoor air quality, as the majority of the air comes into the home filtered through the air handling system rather than  leaking in through the walls.
